Work Orders
Interface (not yet functional)
ITS Department work order system
For electronic submission of a work order
to the ITS department. Will be used
to organize and manage all work that flows into
the help desk. If you would
to view the system, use the links above.
Login to the interface with username
demo and password demo.
Reservation System
A rewrite of the reservation system is currently
in progress. Since video
conferencing reservations are now handled by ITS, we
have incorporated into
our work order system. After a request is made,
it is automatically posted on
the calendar and it is then viewed as a new video
conference request in the
work order system where we can complete the request and
inform the
requestor.
Intranet Portal
We have began investigating the possibilities of
an intranet portal that would
require a login to access the intranet section of our
website. This would make
it available from anywhere around the world.
Currently, it can only be accessed
by machines located on our network. Hopefully, we
can incorporate the
reservation system. Depending on who you are, it
will automatically show
pending requests.
Currently in progress. We have developed a test server
running strictly the
development
version of the intranet portal. Included features are a MySQL database
driven back end, with many updatable features via web browser. SSL
for securing the forms style authentication.
In the progress on the second rewrite of the reservation
system. More dependency clauses. Working primarily on
room reservations, and email notification of pending events - e.g. seminars, and
videoconferencing.
As our needs expand, we will incorporate other
reservation types
such as other rooms, vessels, vehicles, and housing.
Responsible parties will
be able to login and view pending requests slated for approval. You may
view
the system here.
Network Enhancements
Windows Domain Services
Planning has began to either develop a windows
domain or become members
of Austin's existing domain. If members of the
Austin domain, we gain
numerous administration and end user benefits.
Increased security since
UT EID login will be required, no longer having to
worry if you machine is up
to date and patched. Mapped network shares,
meaning that your data
can be housed on a server and accessible at any
location that you login.
A Microsoft Exchange server offering robust calendar
sharing and web mail
interface. Remote administration and maintenance
so that work orders can
be completed very quickly, many times without leaving
the desk, resulting in
increased service times for end users. These are
just a few possibilities.
Many, many more exist.
Wireless Networking
We have been discussing with Austin
for information and policy regarding the
building of a campus wide wireless network. A request for an
evaluation
PNA
server has been made. We are eagerly awaiting its arrival to begin testing.
