STEWARDSHIP

Support existing clean-up and recycling programs

The debris removal and recycling program will be the stewardship outreach of MANERR. The public outreach aspect of this program will important in helping familiarize the community with the MANERR. Staff will coordinate with agencies to run debris removal and recycling programs to promote a conservation ethic. Examples include the monofilament recovery and recycling program (MRRP).  The MRRP is a statewide effort to educate the public on the problems caused by monofilament line left in the environment, to encourage recycling through a network of line recycling bins and drop-off locations, and to conduct volunteer monofilament line cleanup events. The MRRP is sponsored by the Texas Sea Grant Program. Mission-Aransas NERR maintains 6 bins in Port Aransas and works with agencies in Aransas County to maintain bins in their area.

To date 157 pounds of monofilament has been collected and recycled!
